Here in Washington, our coast looks a little more variable than the standard ocean beach. Washington State has 157 miles of coastline that weave through inlets and islands, alongside bays and aquatic sounds. The smell of the sea, a crisp coastal breeze, and the sound of the water are just a few things that will make your next getaway special. Bring your partner on the weekend trip of a lifetime by indulging in a romantic Washington State getaway along the Salish Sea. This intricate body of water includes Puget Sound and the Strait of Juan de Fuca between Washington State and British Columbia. Stay at a gorgeous boutique inn, fill your days with memorable activities, and relax with your favorite person by the water.
Camano Island
Among Puget Sound’s Islands, Camano Island is known as “The Easy Island” for its relaxed spirit and straightforward access (i.e. you don’t have to take a ferry). This peaceful, quiet island is the ideal destination for a couple’s escape from the hustle and bustle of city life. Expect an authentic island experience with small town charm, free from tourist traps and overly commercialized boardwalks. Explore the island’s robust art community by stopping in at galleries such as Matzke Fine Art Gallery and Sculpture Park or Danny Koffman’s Gallery. Another great way to spend your Camano Island weekend is out in nature. Take a hike with your honey along the trails at Cama Beach Historical State Park or Camano Island State Park.
Port Angeles
In addition to being a gateway to Olympic National Park, Port Angeles in itself is an idyllic coastal destination along the Strait of Juan de Fuca, perfect for outdoorsy couples. After getting a great night’s sleep and enjoying a hearty breakfast at your B&B, head out for a day in nature. Our local guides report that the area around Sol Duc Falls is home to many trails. After the salmon ladder area, but before reaching the Sol Duc Falls trailhead, watch for the sign on the right for the Ancient Groves trail, a little-known, quarter-mile loop that takes visitors above the Sol Duc River. This short, picturesque trail features dreamy old growth trees, dripping moss, giant ferns, and a variety of interesting mushrooms. Another nearby romantic trail is Lover’s Lane Trail (pictured above). Located at the end of Sol Duc Road, this tranquil trail is an incredible place to soak in time for just the two of you.
Orcas Island
Orcas Island is home to a growing arts scene, endless outdoor adventures and more. Known by locals as “the gem of the San Juan Islands,” Orcas Island is a beautiful destination all year round. Take your loved one to Moran State Park to hike along old growth trails to summits with stunning views of blue marine vistas. The awe-inspiring scenes from Mount Constitution (pictured above) are a Moran State Park fan favorite! Play tourist with your partner as you window shop the stylish downtown stores before a wine tasting at Doe Bay Wine Company. Of course, with a name like “Orcas Island,” whale watching is a memorable, must-do experience while you’re in town.

Olympia
Located an hour south of Seattle, Olympia offers you and your partner the chance to explore a beautiful, quaint city on the southernmost tip of Puget Sound. Spend your mornings strolling along the waterfront boardwalk at Percival Landing until you reach the colorful, abundant Olympia Farmers Market. Hold hands as you admire the statues and monuments that decorate Monarch Sculpture Park. Another great way to explore Olympia is to rent a kayak at Boston Harbor Marina and paddle around the Sound.
