Washington is surrounded by countless rivers, making it the ultimate fly fisher destination. But with so many rivers to choose from, it can be difficult to decide which one to cast a line into. Luckily, our INNSiders have done the work for you and discovered the top fly fishing rivers in the state. Let’s grab our waders and dive in!
Sol Duc River
This may be the most scenic river in our list. With flourishing greenery on the banks, Sol Duc River has a secluded and serene environment. Sol Duc River, located just off of Highway 101 on the Olympic Peninsula, is filled with Chinook, Coho, Steelhead, and Sockeye for all your fly fishing enjoyment. Please note that salmonids are at low levels, and are subject to catch and release. Sol Duc River is an excellent place to get outside and enjoy the tranquility of nature, while testing out your fly fishing skills.

Klickitat River
Located within the Yakama Native American Reservation, Klickitat River is an exceptional fly fishing destination. Chinook, Coho and Steelhead are bountiful in the area, and the best time to fish is from July to September. Additionally, Yakama Nation tribe members have been dip-net fishing in this river for generations. Head out this summer to see what you can catch on the Klickitat River.
Methow River
The Methow River flows right into the Columbia River, and is a fly fisher’s dream. Located just over an hour outside Leavenworth, Methow River has an abundance of big rainbow and cutthroat trout. Chinook salmon are also becoming more plentiful in the river, especially in the spring to early summer. The Methow River has gorgeous blue water, and is a place to put on your list for fly fishing this season.
Yakima River
Yakima River is one of the most popular fishing rivers in Washington State for a reason. In addition to the beauty of the crystal clear water, the river is home to a variety of salmon and wild trout. Thanks to the Yakama Nation and other partnering wildlife restoration programs, the fish are making a comeback after years of thinning numbers. As fish numbers continue to climb, Yakima River has become the prime destination for fly fishing. In fact, people come from all over the country to participate in the fun!
Hoh River
Hoh River is located within the Olympic National Park, and offers both premier fishing and lovely scenery. When you’re not fishing in the river, take a stroll through the mossy trees of the forest, and admire the stunning greenery. On the water, you’ll be delighted to catch large steelhead without much effort. Our INNSiders recommend using brightly-colored flies due to the amount of silt in the glacial waters. Float, wade, or cast on the bank as you relish in the awe-inspiring beauty of Hoh River.
